Existential Crisis
Lowell was in crisis. A lot had happened in the last year. He’d died in the war, and was brought back by the medics, but not before he had visited the pearly gate. The wound messed up his body, but the spiritual journey messed with his mind. When he got home, his girlfriend got pregnant. She didn’t love him. She did not keep the baby. Lowell was a mess, but he loved God. In desperation, he went to a holy-man, saying, “I’m a wreck, and I need a monastery. I’ve been thinking about going to a Monastery or Zen, Hindu or Christian, so I can just pray and escape.” The holy-man laughed. “Your life is a mess. You’re a mess, and you want to run away somewhere and hide and pray and hope it’ll all be okay. Let me ask you a question, what do you want?” Lowell answered, “I want God.” “That’s easy,” replied the Rabbi. “If it’s God you want, stop running. Stay in your religion. There you will encounter God. Play hide and seek with God, and you’ll miss what is right in front you.” Let’s Pray: Dear God, we look, we seek, we struggle, we try this and that, and still You can’t be found. Make it easy for us – show us Yourself where we are. Amen. Here’s a Thought: God is right here, right now. |
