Title: Say Uncle
Date: February 21, 2012
Tommy took his daddy’s caddy to drive his date, his friend Gary and Gary’s date, to the prom.
Gary’s date lived two towns away. The ride back to the city, with stereo blasting, was quicker than Tommy imagined. Pulling into town, Tommy glanced in his rearview mirror and saw three police cruisers about a half-mile behind him with blue lights flashing. They were too far back to have anything to do with him so he ignored them, until he saw the roadblock just ahead. Six city cruisers impeded his path. There were flashing blue lights and police everywhere.
He slowed to a stop. Officers stared at him, with their hands on holstered pistols. The three chasing cruisers skidded to a stop. Their officers jumped out. Tommy suspected he’d been driving a little fast. As the sergeant in charge approached his window with a menacing look, Tommy recognized his uncle. Uncle Joey looked at Tommy, shook his head, and smiled. Turning to the other officers, Uncle Joey said, “It’s all right boys; he’s my nephew. I’ll take of it.” The cops and cruisers vanished. Two of the cruisers behind Tommy had followed him for two towns, but couldn’t catch him. The third one, from another town, had joined the merry chase a couple miles back. They had radioed ahead for the roadblock. Tommy would’ve paid a big price, if his uncle hadn’t interceded.
Let’s Pray: Dear God, be better than a loving uncle by interceding at our end for all of our mistakes. Eliminate our offenses, and remove the roadblock into heaven. You’re the best. Amen.
Here’s a Thought: God’s love intercedes.
