Title: Lover Boy
Date: January 19, 2013
He’s headed for trouble. Most say so. No kid likes him, but he’s never noticed. He has no friends, and believes every kid is his best buddy. He laughs at bad jokes, and he dances and plays when he shouldn’t. He punches kids, but means no harm.
He has no aptitude at math, or reading, or science, or history, or social studies. He loves them all. He never raises his hand, always volunteers wrong answers, and apologizes when scolded. His spelling is atrocious.
His home life is filled with confusion, shouting and fighting. Breakfast is seldom served. When it is served, it’s usually on his way out the door. He’s a troubled kid, but every teacher loves him. He’s a smiling spark of goofy gladness. He has no idea that he has a fine mind for mechanics with hands built to fix. If he graduates high school, it will be a miracle.
Each one of us is God-built with latent talents. Not everybody sees the talents in others. It takes a keen-eyed teacher to see the possibilities in a child who will never pass a test. Teachers see our potential when we do not. God knows our potential even when we do not. If life is a bit of a struggle for you, or if you feel you are headed for trouble, pray that you will discover your purpose. Whatever God has in store for you, you can be sure it’s what you’re made for.
Let’s Pray: Dear God, You made us with talent and potential. What and where is it? Amen.
Here’s a Thought: We’re God-built.
