Daily Devotion:

Title: Saintly Seeds

My old hermit neighbor died some years ago; he tended his garden his entire life right next door, but never planted his garden before Memorial Day. “No point in planting anything that early out here,” he said, “otherwise, the cold, fog, rain, and chill still in the ground will rot your seeds. I plant my peas, squash, turnips and lettuce on the same day.”

It turns out he was right, as I learned through his experience, and my own.

Here is a condensed version of an anonymous planter’s guide, titled: 

Gardening for Life: 

Plant three rows of peas:

1.  Peace of mind
2.  Peace of heart
3.  Peace of soul 

Plant four rows of squash:
1.  Squash gossip
2.  Squash indifference
3.  Squash grumbling
4.  Squash selfishness

Plant four rows of lettuce:
1.  Lettuce be faithful
2.  Lettuce be kind
3.  Lettuce be patient
4.  Lettuce really love one another

Plant three rows of turnips:

1.  Turnip for meetings
2.  Turnip for service
3.  Turnip to help one another

Plant three rows of thyme:
1.  Thyme for each other
2.  Thyme for family
3.  Thyme for friends

Sow your seeds at the proper time, water with patience, cultivate with love, and you will reap abundantly.

Let’s Pray: Dear God, it seems You have this almost cosmic law – what goes around, comes around, or we reap what we sow. Teach our hearts to sow saintly seeds, that we may reap what we sow. Amen.

Here’s a Thought: “The one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.”.
