Title: Jesus Wisdom Teacher
Date: March 01, 2017
Jesus is my wisdom teacher. He’s a fit for me. The Gospels have been in front of me for my whole life. I like Mark for his brevity and his lack of a Christmas nativity; I like Matthew for his collection of Jesus sayings; and Luke for his expansive narrative of Yeshua's life; and mostly mystical John but whose antisemitism hurts. The Gospel of Thomas, not in the Bible, is a list of Jesus’ wisdom sayings. I enjoy the Nag Hammadi codices dug up in an Egyptian desert in nineteen forty-five--they push me to wonder more about the Christ.
Here’s some wisdom of Jesus called Christ by the writer called Matthew: “His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire." A grain of wheat is both kernel and chaff. Kernel we eat. Chaff we burn as waste. Kernel is treasure. You are kernel. You are the treasure of God. You are the kernel worth keeping. Fear not the fire which cleanses. Believe in the All Loving who came to teach us to love ourselves and each other.
You won’t bring into Heaven what you don’t need there.
Let’s Pray: Holy Wisdom, love me, and let me love, let me burn with the passion of love so when I enter your gate I will be cleansed from waste to only be with You! My Treasure. Gather me into your Storehouse of Love. Amen.
A thought: Grow your faith with love.
